With previous fios tv equipment you were able to use your own router using a moca adapter for your router, but the new equipment (android tv steaming box + vsm4100atv) from verizon will only work with a verizon router. That was for a your fios tv plan with masn included as one of the five channel selections. What's the downside of buying a router vs renting one

I guess i'm asking how often does verizon upgrade their fios routers? For picture quality, fios is generally better, but yttv has better 4k pq. I called the fios guy and he asked if i had my own router or if i wanted to rent one from verizon for an additional $15 per month, which obviously i don't want to do
